I'm currently in pre-production for my junior project, titled 'Ninja Noir.' Dealing with the logistics of set building, costumes, casting, etc.

The film is almost completely cast at present, and I'm just beginning a round of visual design. If you hadn't guessed from the title, it's a noir film. Roger Ebert once said that the genre was so popular because most of the production design is done for you. Of course, your typical film noir is relatively light on ninja.

Needless to say there will be trench coats and fedoras. There may even be a scally-cap, if budget permits. My original plans to shoot on black and white have fallen through, since my DP lacks my romanticism about shooting on an outdated film stock. But don't think for a moment that it's going to be in color. We're desaturating it in post.

A lack of communication between the screenwriting and production departments at the school had lead to major rewrites at the last minute, but we can only hope the story still holds up.
